gta PUBLISHERS| Since 1968, the gta Institute and later its publishing company, gta Publishers, have published more than 250 books on the topics of architecture in theory and practice, architectural history, urban planning and regional planning, landscape architecture, and the preservation of historic buildings and monuments. The publishing list is aimed at nonspecialists with an interest in architecture, as well as at the international specialist audience. The company aims to meet high standards in content and design, and to ensure outstanding production values. Numerous gta books have won awards.
IMPACT| In both subject and conception, many gta books are aimed at a wide readership. These titles – often by well-known authors, including numerous professors in the Department of Architecture at the ETH Zurich – deal with topics of national interest and also have a considerable international impact.
NETWORKING| The publishing company also maintains links with public bodies involved in the architectural field whose work is supported by academic research, with publications produced by institutions such as the Swiss Federal Department of Culture in Berne and the City of Zurich’s Department of Urban Planning and Municipal Building Department, as well as the Canton of Berne’s Office for the Preservation of Historic Buildings and Monuments. These books present work concerned with historic monuments and archaeological research in the field of architecture in a vivid and comprehensible way.
SCIENCE AND SCHOLARSHIP| Academic publications based on research at the ETH are aimed at a specialized readership. They impressively show the quality of the research work conducted in the Department of Architecture and at the gta Institute. In contrast to the natural sciences, the results of this type of research project are primarily presented in book form. It is mainly through their publications that historians of culture, and an institution concerned with cultural history, are able to make their mark.
AIMS | The company aims to reflect the broad range of topics and the intellectual standard of the teaching and research conducted at the Department of Architecture, both internally within the ETH itself and externally towards the outside world, helping to contribute to the university’s wider reputation. On the other hand, the publishing house also aims to provide a bridge between theory and practice, university and public life, thereby helping to establish a firm base for university activities within society as a whole.
